Last week was HUGE! The powder room is actually starting to look like a normal room with only a couple of weeks to go in the One Room Challenge. I new I had to get things somewhat "complete" and functional because we were having our neighbors over for a small adult Halloween party on Friday. Nothing like a good deadline to get things moving! If you need a reminder of where the powder room started, check out these posts: Week 1 | Weeks 2 & 3 After lots of hard work, I was able to complete the wallpaper, trim and accessories early and remove all of the construction stuff before Friday. Here's a rundown of everything that happened last week: Step 1: Wallpaper, jeez I was nervous! It took more time for me to psych myself up to apply each piece than it should have. The room ... One Room Challenge Week 3
Whoop whoop, it’s week 3 of the One Room Challenge and I am back to it! Unfortunately, I was out of commission last week. I had a tonsillectomy and it kicked my butt, ouch! Anyway, it’s a good thing I started on the bathroom before I had surgery. The board and batten trim was way easier than I expected, in fact, it took longer to make up my mind about the size of the battens than it took to cut and install them. As usual, I wish I had done the project years ago! I decided to use 3” lattice molding instead of 1”x3”s because I didn’t want to remove the baseboards and I didn’t want the B&B to protrude past the existing moldings. There are TONS of tutorials for board & batten on Pinterest so I’m not going into the details. I used a nailgun to install it and I did not use ... [Read More]
One Room Challenge Week 1- Powder Room
Today is the big day!!! It’s the official kickoff for the One Room Challenge. For those of you who don’t know, it’s a 6 week challenge to completely makeover one room in your home. So... which room did I choose? Drum roll please... The powder room... It is super boring. The only thing that has ever been done in the room is paint and a couple of accessories and I am tired of it. Stick around over the next 6 weeks for a major transformation! At first, I didn’t think I would even need 6 weeks to makeover the powder room, but you know how it goes, life happens. Unfortunately, I have to have a tonsillectomy tomorrow and it’s going to make for an interesting time line... eek, keep your fingers crossed for me! Here is a before shot of the room, like I said, ... [Read More]
How to Renovate Your Kitchen in Phases
Okay, fair warning y'all, there is no way to keep this one short and sweet, but it will be worth it! Our kitchen was orange when we moved in. The cabinets, the floors, and even the walls at one point. Although we love the UT Vols, orange wasn't the look we had in mind for the space. The cabinets were in good shape, I just didn't love the color. A few years ago Adam and I painstakingly filled the grain and painted our oak cabinets and it made a HUGE difference! That was phase one of the kitchen renovation. It still wasn't as bright as I would like and last year, we decided it was time for phase two. Let's take a walk down memory lane, shall we? Here is the picture from the listing of our house. All I can say is... Wow, that's a whole lotta orange... The photo below was taken ... [Read More]
DIY Front Door Privacy Glass
This is the EASIEST project ever! The only reason I am even doing a tutorial is because I couldn’t find what I was looking for when I got started. Our front door is one of the best changes we have made to our home. It did wonders for taking the curb appeal out of 1998. The only problem was the lack of privacy. We live on a small cul de sac and our house is really close to the street. I love our neighbors and I didn’t want them to have to see more of us than they would like... awkward! I really wanted bubble or hammered glass panes, but those weren’t an option with the door we chose. Instead, we went for it and ordered the clear glass door. When the door was installed, it was beautiful, but it was as clear as advertised and I knew we would want more privacy. Unfortunately, I ... [Read More]
Everything You Need to Know About Spray Painting Chairs
Let me start out by encouraging you not to do this project ;) Just kidding… kind of… If you read the post about my dining room, you saw that my inspiration had gorgeous kelly green Chippendale chairs. I love them, like super duper love them, but they weren’t in the budget for this room makeover. As I said in my Dining Room Makeover post, I wanted the room to be a mix of modern and traditional and my existing chairs just didn’t cut it. As any good bargain hunter would do, I turned to marketplace and Nextdoor to find a good alternative. I ended up with a nice table and 6 chairs for $75. The bad part was that my hubby had to drive 45 minutes to get them, sorry babe. My plan was to paint the chairs kelly green and keep the table as is. The chairs were in good shape with ... [Read More]
